A few of my favorite nautical treasures

Around here attempting to keeping "boats" to a minimum is a must.  These however are a few of the items I just wouldn't part with.



Wood pulley with lots of use.

An old masthead light turned lavender from the sun.
I lightened the photo so you could see the color better.

Fabulous isn't it?


This lobster float was found in an antique store over 20 years ago.
My father passed it on to me and proudly announced he had cleaned
it up for me by putting on new line and repainting it! 
Thanks Dad, you shouldn't have.
So now it sits outside and is finally beginning to show a bit of weathering.

    Beautiful treasures! My newest treasure is the 4 foot driftwood log, complete with barnacles. I'm hanging it on the lanai...

    These pieces are like jewelry. I don't have any lovely favorite things...always trying to simplify. However, my mid-century modern furniture could pass for favorite things...they're the "art" of my rooms.

    We have a pair of those old brass masthead lights on our dock at our lakehouse - purchased in an antique shop in the upper pennisula of Michigan. Hubby rewired them into working condition and they create such a beautiful site overlooking the water!

    This treasures look like they can tell so many wonderful stories.:-)Just beautiful!
    And answering your question with regards to why we do not see turbans being worn often, I do have a theory. In my years working as a milliner I have discovered that not every lady can wear a hat in general, not to mention a hat like turban. Turban demands attention, it stands out. Needless to say not all girls can handle being a center of attention. :-)))

    My favorite is the top one :) Here in Hawaii we are always on the lookout for Japanese fishing balls on the beach- great glass balls that have crossed the entire Pacific ocean! They're rare, so I haven't found one yet... someday.

    They are all so wonderful, the pulley is my favourite, the natural timber is so lovely and warm and worn. I have a large life bouy on my bathroom wall I treasure, it is a real oldie and has the name of an old russian fishing boat on the side. I also love old cane crab pots on a wall and a friend is turning one into a light will have to show you how it turns out, chers Katherine

    Good evening dearest! SO nice of you to visit tonight! And yes, it is quite a surprise to find that through correspondence and similar hopes and dreams that unexpected friendships can develop, and that is my most treasured possession. The discovery of my own talents and dreams coming to reality is all coming about in the last two years since blogging; perhaps it is a safer place to put yourself out there, for on the one hand, you are alone, with no voices to threaten you or make you doubt, so then, I have found that I just GO AHEAD and write my heart or show my art. Then, the audience responds and you begin to gain momentum. Quite fascinating!

    Your wares are wonderful, and what a great gift to have from your dad!

    ahhh...that purple is fabulous! All your nautical treasures are. I bought a boat the other day in preparation for the beach house that I most likely will never have. I put it in the attic to save. It was huge and metal and chippy white. A new piece but I loved it just the same. Maybe someday....sigh.... Happy Weekend xo Lynn

    You have mentioned that you love masks frm Venice. I adore them too! My husband is an Itallian and we have a small collection of masks from Venice. I think they are absoolutely magnificent!:-)

    These are all wonderful and the story of your father cleaning up that fabulous vintage float is so funny. There are many folks who just don't understand our love of old, beat up stuff from the sea, lol.

    I have an old pulley like that from my father in law... it was likely used on a north Texas farm, but I prefer thinking it came from a salty setting.

    I love your lobster float! We have a garden full of buoys and floats that wash up from Spain, Portugal and Ireland, they look great!
