Gray and dismal as far as you could see.
And at the same time mesmerizing.
Obviously closed to swimming, one area was closed altogether
with the beach patrol advising everyone to stay behind the dunes.
This seagull seemed to think I might have some food.
This one seemed a little tired and stayed close by for about 15 minutes.
I've never seen one of these little birds sit still for a minute.
I was relieved when a friend dropped in to check on the little fellow.
The surf was looking a little Hawaii 5'0 style.
What I thought was a nice find beach glass was actually tons
of jelly fish that had been smashed like a crystal vase
and scattered on the beach.
We were all reminded of how fierce and unforgiving the ocean can be.
Have a safe holiday weekend everyone.
Until next time.

It may have been gray and dismal, but your photos are really beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Dangerously beautiful, there is nothing prettier then the sea when it is calm!
The pitures Rita a so amazing are they not. Too bad storms have a mind of there own and the fear of damage.

yes your photos are lovely but oh yes.......the power it can have. That does look like Hawaii 5-0. That last one is the sweetest shot!
Beautiful pictures!! The ocean is so amazing and any time!
Thanks for sharing- I love a good storm!
These are awesome shots! I love all the birdie ones. But I particularly like the folding wave one. Glad you were safe enough to go out there and take photos.
your shoots are beautiful.....and the power of nature is incredible. interesting that the colors are so subtle; i could watch water all day long. every day and never tire.

I'm glad that Earl did not make landfall...these storms can be so devastating to those that live at the beach...

Thanks for the pictures. It does remind me a lot of Hawaii surf. I think you really captured the natural aftermath. Poor worn out birds.

The pictures are awesome! Hope you guys are okay! I live on an island and we're getting some pretty crazy waves here too! We just hope they don't roll down the street at high tide!
Have a great day!
Rita - your photos are absolutely incredible, girl! I could almost hear the powerful crashes on shore. So very beautiful and inspiring.....

I loved seeing your photos. I have stayed along the coast for a few hurricanes in my lifetime and was witness to nature's fury and beauty at the same time. I am glad Earl didn't make landfall and that he is now history. Thanks for sharing your photos to beach lovers that do not live near the beach.
MY best- Diane
Wow....your photos are amazing. Makes me feel like I am there...I can almost smell the salty air:)
I love these pictures... so wild & powerful. I've always found the ocean so humbling.

Your pictures tell a story. You are so right, the ocean can be so unforgiving at times. I imagine the birds are exhausted from fighting the wind and rain. I'm glad the storm didn't amount to anything stronger. Wonderful pictures.
Awesome pictures! I love the last pic..so cute!
Love your photos, Rita! Very cool. Happy Labor Day.
Beautiful shots... so dramatic, so romantic.
Stunning pics ! Earl.....sounds like someones uncle not a horrid hurricane. Stay safe my friend, cheers katherine
Blogger seems to be having fits this morning so hope I haven't commented twice. Love the shots especially the curling wave. I have weathered several hurricanes at the outer banks and also fled from one....that was fun!...NOT! I think I got my feather wreath at a local garden center called the "The Great Big Greenhouse".
Your photos are stunningly beautiful! I hope you weathered the storm okay...
Thank you for sharing the coastal beauty with us.

I agree with everyone else WOW these are such great captures. You should frame a series of these. Also enjoyed seeing those little birds, I wonder what they thought of Earl?
Wow, what gorgeous wave pictures...AWESOME, to use an overused word...but awesome nonetheless. The powers of nature teach us to many things, don' they?
Beautiful pictures!!
I love these images. I've always been drawn to the danger of the sea, and your photos capture this perfectly.
Your pictures of the ocean waves are amazing. Although I much prefer a bright blue sky over a grey dismal sky, there's something appealing about the dark sky in your pictures... like you said, it's mesmerizing.
Great shots of the birds too. Hope they all weathered Earl OK!!

You took some amazing photos. I love the ocean even when it looks angry. It always reminds me of the vastness and power of God. I am an ocean lover!!! I just read your comment on my Fall post on neutrals. I just gathered images from all over not just one house but I agree it would be a lovely place to stay. Some fun ideas for Fall I thought, have a good weekend, Kathysue

Dear Rita

It's amazing how something so destructive can also be so beautiful before. :)
your pictures are always so perfect too. those birds!!!
OH! THank you for visiting today and yes, I too wear my pearl studs even to go out to the market. Why not? Life is short...wear your gems and BE ONE...enjoy the beach dearest.....Anita
I can practically hear the waves crashing. What beautiful pictures you take...Enjoy your weekend!
Beautiful photos! I love the beach when a major storm is offshore...WAY off shore. The surf is always spectacular. And after the storm passes, I love to explore the sand sculpture on the dunes and to see what treasures the surf has yielded.
Hopefully all the storms/hurricanes this season will just skirt the coastlines and stay out to sea.
Jane (artfully graced)
Those pictures are incredible! I love the ocean even on such tempestuous days... makes you realize how powerful it really is.
Dangerous waves it is but looks like it could be some fun surf ride.
